Security

LASER Level 2 Award in CCTV Operations (Public Space Surveillance) within the Private Security

Overview

The LASER Level 2 Award in CCTV Operations is an essential qualification for those working or seeking work as a CCTV Operator in the private security industry – and a prerequisite for individuals working as CCTV Operators in the private security industry to obtain a licence from the Security Industry Authority.

Assessment

Two externally set and externally marked multiple choice exams and a practical demonstration of CCTV surveillance skills, assessed by the tutor.

Entry Requirements

Learners must be able to communicate in English (oral and written). Learners must be 16 or over to undertake this qualification and 18 or over to apply for the necessary SIA licence to work.

LASER Level 2 Award for Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry (QCF)

Overview

The LASER Level 2 Award in Working as a Door Supervisor is an Essential qualification for those working or seeking work as Door Supervisor in the private security industry – and a pre-requisite for individuals working as Door Supervisors in the private security industry to obtain a licence from the Security Industry Authority.

Assessment

Three externally set and externally marked multiple choice exams.

Entry Requirements

Learners must be able to communicate in English (oral and written). Learners must be 16 or over to undertake this qualification and 18 or over to apply for the necessary SIA licence to work.

Food and Hygiene Certificate

Overview

The Food and Hygiene course is designed to prepare those who work in a place where food is cooked, prepared or handled.

Entry Requirements

Learners must be able to communicate in English (oral and written). Learners must be 16 or over to undertake this qualification.

Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene for Catering

Overview

The Food and Safety in Catering course is designed is specifically designed for those who handle or prepare food or is involved in the management of such people in a catering environment.

Entry Requirements

Learners must be able to communicate in English (oral and written). Learners must be 16 or over to undertake this qualification.

Facilities

Computer Access

City College of London has a computer laboratory equipped with the latest industry standard workstations using the latest software as well as access to the Internet. Both hardware and software are regularly reviewed and updated. Students also have unlimited free access to the Internet.

City College of London has a limited number of reference books that are available for short-term loan and reference.

For a wider choice of general reference books, we encourage our students to register with one of the local public libraries in the surrounding area

Teacher Training

Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) (formerly known as PTLLS)

Overview

This Level 3 Award is an introduction to teaching that will give an insight into the roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training, how to plan and deliver inclusive teaching sessions, and how to assess and give constructive feedback.The AET is ideal for peoplewishing to enter teaching or for those working in other environments such as Work Based Learning or the Voluntary Sector.

Assessment

This qualification is assessed by a series of theoretical and practical tasks – including delivering a micro-teach session to your peers during the course.At present, there are no examinations for AET.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for the AET, however, learners must be able to communicate in English (oral and written). Learners must also be aged 19 or over to enrol on this programme.

Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (CET) (formerly known as CTLLS)

Overview

The Level 4 certificate is a first stage teaching qualification, in which you will gain a fundamental understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a teacher/trainer, planning for inclusive learning, methods in delivering and assessing in education and training, and the use of resources in education and training.  The Certificate in Education and Training is a 36 credit qualification delivered across 6 months

Assessment

This qualification is assessed by a series of theoretical and practical tasks – including 30 teaching practice hours.

Entry requirements

Candidates wishing to undertake CET must be experienced or qualified in the subject area they wish to teach. They must be in-service, or have access to at least 30 hours of teaching.Furthermorelearners will need good written and spoken English.

All candidates should demonstrate Literacy and Numeracy level 2. (Overseas students should demonstrate IELTS 6.5 or higher)

Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET) (formerly known as DTLLS)

Overview

The Level 5 diploma extends into investigation and research into current practice theories, and models relating to education and training, as well as developing good teaching practice. The Diploma in Education and Training is a 120 credit programme.

Assessment

This qualification is assessed by a series of theoretical and practical tasks – including 100 teaching practice hours. Candidates will need to have these hours secured before starting the course.

Entry requirements for DET

  • Candidates must be 19+.
  • Candidates wishing to undertake the DET programme must be experienced or qualified in the subject area they wish to teach at the appropriate level.
  • Candidates must have access to 100 hours of teaching/training practice.
  • Additionally, due to the nature of both the theory and practical assessments which students need to achieve for the DET are such that candidates will need good written and spoken English, i.e. the ability to read and interpret written tasks, and to write in an academic style.

All candidates should demonstrate Literacy and Numeracy level 2. (Overseas students should demonstrate IELTS 6.5 or higher)

  • a standard of literacy and numeracy supported by a general education equivalent to four GCSEs at grade A*-C
  • other related level 2 qualifications
  • Related Work Experience.

On successful completion, a learner can progress within employment and/or continue their study in the same, or related area.
